Hello you beautiful, strong human,
Welcome back to Things I Found, a newsletter that celebrates the random, the interesting, the useful, the informative, the beautiful, the funny, the sometimes difficult - and everything in between.
It’s been a while. How have you been?
I’ve had my fair share of both work and sunshine, with an additional layer of insecurity, strong emotions, deep thoughts, and most importantly, an unabated will to learn, experiment, and grow. What felt right before doesn’t necessarily work right now, and it’s good to remember that no decision, affliction, or triumph is permanent. It’s a journey, innit?
Right, off to the thing I found.
The thing I found
The song Strange by Celeste.
I found this…
Beautiful, profound, real.
Why?
This song echoes beautifully. It’s paced, soft yet strong.
It reads tired, raw, truthful, but somehow not quite resigned.
But for me, what made it truly stand out was this part of the lyrics:
Isn't it strange?
How people can change
From strangers to friends
Friends into lovers
And strangers again
Take a moment to take it in.
We go through the cycle many times in life: from loving and being inseparable to missing and maybe not truly recognising a loved one - whether that’s a friend, a parent, or a partner, in love or business (taking a bit of poetical license here with lover).
We might suffer from the grief of what (we believe) it could have been.
But have you thought that maybe we also go through that cycle with ourselves?
From not quite knowing who we are at a given moment, through the excitement to getting to know a little more, and oh, the hardwon privilege of perhaps loving that person (ourself)… to maybe sometimes losing touch a little and forgetting it all again.
While also suffering the grief of what (we believe) it (we) might, could have been.
How about instead, we get in touch again, try again, listen again, love again, and see what will be?
Consider this your nudge to turn that stranger back into a loved one, again - whether that’s you or someone else.
How was it found?
While binge-watching the first season of Ted Lasso.
(What a show. Thank you Kim for raving about it).
That’s it, now. Have a lovely weekend!
Thank you for the space to share my thoughts.
Take good care of yourself and those around you. And remember to recharge.
Much care,
